A short scene, in screenplay format, from the movie As Good As it Gets
EXT.  ANGLE ON NEW YORK SIDEWALK - DAY
We SEE the feet of Melvin and Verdell the dog.
MELVIN
(to Verdell)
Let's go home and do some writing.
INT. MELVIN'S APARTMENT - LATER
MELVIN
(O.S.)
He had made the girl happy. And what a girl.
CLOSE SHOT -MELVIN AT HIS COMPUTER WITH
VERDELL THE DOG
MELVIN
"You saved my life," she said.
Pause for a beat, while Melvin ruminates, then
MELVIN
(continuing)
"You better make it up to me".
Melvin gets up from his computer, moves off toward the kitchen, exultant.
Verdell pads along behind.
MELVIN
(continuing)
Done. Done. Done. Yes, I hate the doggie. Yes, I hate the doggie.
Whoa! 62 books...Done!

Verdell immortalized

YOU, TOO, COULD WRITE 62 BOOKS - though it is not necessary to be an obsessive-compulsive to accomplish this. Imagine that feeling of accomplishment, the satisfaction of a job well done, a beautiful ending.

Whether you've written 62 books or whether you are finishing your first, its a wonderful moment you will never forget. To get to that point, all you have to do is start. That's the hardest part. Once you get into a project, a book, a story, a screenplay, you are on your way.

If you write a page a day, you'll be done in a year. If you write two pages, you'll have two books in a year. To finish 62 books in a reasonable length of time, you would need to write 4 pages a day. That's a wild thought, but its not impossible. All it takes is concentration, discipline, hard work, and imagination. And, putting your pen to paper.
