The best place to write is wherever you can. The main thing is to get yourself to sit down, calm down, and write. John Nichols once said that he wrote while driving his old pickup. I don't advise this. Winston Churchill dictated from his bed, while drinking champagne, which seems much more civilized. Others operate by the seat of their pants and write around jobs and kids. |
| A routine can be helpful - a schedule to stick by. A certain place at a certain time will signal your unconscious that it's time to begin. It could be early in the morning or late at night. There are no rules. Try a new place every day and find out what works. There are as many ways to go about it as there are ways to say it. Everyone is different. And there's room for everyone. | ![]() |

Write in a cafe, a coffee house, a cave. At a desk, in a chair, in the tub. Write it on a napkin, a matchbook, or the back of your hand. It doesn't matter where and it doesn't matter when, the important thing is to do it. |
